Dipesh Tank, a 22-year-old BPO employee, has created a database of volunteers who want to lend a hand in those hospitals that are treating blast victims. Its called Youth for People.
Tank visited three hospitals Bhagwati, Cooper and Nanavati to help in whichever way required, but was greeted by chaos. Other volunteers were crowding the places, and hospital authorities did not know how they could help.
People had lined up, but everything was haphazard. That's when I realized that a system and process was required, said Tank, a senior technical person with SITEL India.
Tank then set up the database of people willing to volunteer in emergency situations. It contains the volunteers name, age, address, contact details and the areas they can help out in. Right now, I am handing out forms for people to fill in their details. Soon I will have a website where everything can be accessed, he said.
Tank has enlisted 250 volunteers within two day of floating the idea. Currently, most of them are from his professional and social circle, but others are gradually signing up. I have given out the forms to nearly all 600 employees in my project. We are also sending out letters to other BPOs in Malad and Saki Naka through our Human Resource department, he informs.
When the web site is in place, Tank hopes that the volunteers will not restrict themselves to major calamities, and will also help out in other areas.
